Is Praful Patel working for Jet and Kingfisher?
Actions of our aviation minister suggests that he is working for Jet and Kingfisher. Lets look at the evidence.
First, Praful Patel has supported the alliance between Jet and Kingfisher. In fact, I don’t think he was surprised after hearing the news. This suggests that Jet and Kingfisher had his blessings before they announced the alliance. This suggests that inspite of knowing the following he supported the deal:
(a) Alliance is illegal. It is anti-consumer and anti competitive and violates MRTP Act.
(b) It will kill other airlines including Air India and Indian. I thought he is responsible for protecting the interests of both the state owned airlines. If small airlines like Spice Jet and Paramount are surviving in (even though barely), Jet and Kingfisher need to also learn to survive.
(c) Customers will have to pay more which will go into Vijay Mallya and Naresh Goyal’s pocket. Also, they will have to suffer poor service as competition will be reduced.
Taking the above into consideration who do you think he works?
With the help of the illegal alliance, Jet and KingFisher may become cash sufficient and may not have to sell their stake at low valuations, government will have to bail out NACIL (Air India and Indian) by giving them around Rs. 1000 crores. So indirectly Praful Patel’s support for alliance will result in transfer of government funds to Jet and Kingfisher.
It is widely reported that Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel may have been responsible for getting the both sides to work out a deal. I think if ministers are getting invoved in mergers and acquisitions, then they should become investment bankers and leave politics to others.
Further, Praful Patel when asked to comment on the layoffs by Jet said that he cannot dictate to the airlines on human resources. Agreed. However, how can he assist and endorse the illegal alliance between the two private airlines? I thought as a politician one is supposed to be protecting the interest of the public at large and not just the rich industrialist friends.
I believe that Praful Patel should resign as a minister for assisting and supporting Jet and Kingfisher get into an illegal alliance? There is enough circumstantial proof that he had given his blessings to the deal even before it was announced.
